Greg Lauren, nephew of renowned American designer Ralph Lauren, launched his own eponymous label in 2011, with an intention to define new wardrobe staples for the twenty-first-century dresser. Based out of L.A., the painter-turned designer, draws inspiration from traditional collegiate wear, and applies his touch through distressing and deconstruction techniques to transform iconic pieces into brilliant new ready-to-wear. His artiste is illustrated through his intentionally meticulous designs, which feature : denim patchwork flannels, quilted workwear, graphic t-shirts, panelled jackets, distressed waffle knits, and embroidered crests, all with an array of exposed seams, and raw edges. Lauren’s label transforms traditional preppy, revealing his own casual-meets-grunge aesthetic. The garments exude a very DIY-like feel, often using vintage military surplus scrap, repurposed denim, and post consumer material throughout his collection. Lauren elevates the casual grunge appeal of his label by paying precise attention to detailing, and tailoring, and always sourcing the finest quality textiles. A majority of Lauren’s garments are handmade in L.A., and speak for an upcoming generation of rebellious, and expressive individuals, who are embracing and living in the label in its truest form.
